Steve, have your customers upgraded their firmware? What about phone line
quality? Have you tested other modems from the problem locations?
3.8.2 does help with some things, however we noticed some improvements and some
problems. Improvements overall with v.90 compatibility with our customers. Some
problems initially with previously working USR Sportster 56k modems, especially
the ones shipping with gateway and dell comps. However, having the customers
upgrade their firmware helped enormously.
Some minor problems with USR 336/288 modems, but updated drivers from USR
website and adding AT&F to the extra settings in modem control panel helped
there. Sometimes 3 commas worked wonders. Sometimes a combo of AT&F and 3 commas
was the fix.... The AT&F is our init string alteration of choice as it works
wonders for most "problem" modems.
Good Luck.
