(PM) our PM3 disco stats, 24 hrs later

Here is the latest data on our PM3 disconnects across 4 POPs
(3.8.2, SW Bell CT1s). "Port Error - Unknown State" still accounts for a
majority of terminations (31% !), and seems to account for a lot of the
disconnects customers are getting. I went back and broke it down by POP,
and have tracked down the errors to two PM3s.

I called Livingston shortly after I posted the first results this
morning, and was told the unknown state errors "could be a plethora of
things"... not a very good starting point.

I have tried measuring the number of port errors on each Sx port, but
nothing obvious happening there; while the distribution of port errors was
not even, it did not have any erratic values that would indicate a
specific series of Sx port were fried. From what I can tell, I don't
think there is a easy way to try to correspond Sx ports with modem Mx
ports. Later I went back and tried to see if the port errors kept
occurring to the same user or set of users, nothing turning up yet either.

Some have suggested that the script I was using
(pm3-discon.pl by Chris Adams <cadams@ro.com> ) could be producing flawed
results, but grepping and wc -l 'ing the logs show the results are right.

The only thing I have to go on right now is to try going out to POP 1
and move the CT1s from PM1 to PM2 and vice versa to see if the port errors
follow the CT1 spans or the PM3. Unfortunately at POP 2 I do not have
any other chassies to swap with.

enjoy... ;(
