:Maybe the following is the only way that we could afford to receive
:56k alalog access with PM2. Becaouse we have BRI but not PRI.

The MP8i and 16i are just isdn/modem racks that you would still have to
connect to a remote access server like a PM 25 or 2e. The 25 would work
better as 3 MP8i's match up to 1 pm25 and there are special cables made to
connect the 2 together.

Now having said that, there are disadvantages to the 8I.
1. You cant do bonding (mppp) because the analog pm's dont do it.
2. I dont see anywhere on the USR spec sheet that they support stac
3. Its a 3com/usr product so you pay thru the nose for support and ugprades.

Gee I noticed on the 3com website they actually have screen captures of
PMCONSOLE. I wonder if they got permission to do that. ;-) Its pretty good
doc tho...

:As MegaZone and Sherwood says, I understood that to use PM3 is better
:solution than to install 56k modem expansion on PM2.

There is the Netserver 8i and 16i which is a stand-alone bri server from
3com but I have heard nothing but BAD things about it.

2 other alternatives would be:

1. Get the Adtran Atlas 800 with the BRI card option and convert the BRI's
into a PRI and feed a PM 3. THis works well and you can do bonding,
compression, 56k modem calls, etc...

2. Get an Ascend Max 1800. I dont usually recommend Ascend because their os
is difficult, the menuing system is yucky, their java auto config program
crashes most pc's, the modem cards are VERY expensive, the unit is heavier
than a pm 3, and quite loud with DC-8 like fans inside.
