Yeah... The Smartlink's firmware--at least on this customer's modem--is
from 2/98. I can't find any updates on Archtek's website for that
modem, so I'm assuming there isn't a newer one. 3Com also lists the
latest firmware for this modem's product ID (00178500) with a date of
2/98. These things seem to work fairly well, but they do tend to
renegotiate quite a bit at higher speeds. I guess I'll just have to
limit the connect rate to something that it can maintain.
I was just wondering... What if USR came out with a new firmware update
for their Sportster with the same product ID as the Smartlink. Would
you dare to flash the Smartlink with the sportster code? Maybe it would
realize it's not a genuine USR. I don't know... just curious.
