I have installed about 5 of these modems in different computers. None of
them worked reliably. I was curious so I hooked speakers up to the speaker
phone jack and listened to the connection... well... you can listen for
yourself... they all do the same thing... very strange noises when
connecting... nothing I've ever heard before when a modem negotiates. If
anyone out there has also heard these noises and knows what they are, I
would be interested. I don't know if this has anything to do with the
connection. But I have never been able to get one of these SM56 modems to
connect to a PM3 without troubles either connecting, staying connected or
browsing the web. Nothing I have tried has got these things to work.
