Case in point... We had a guy a while back that called us and wanted to
get connected. He had a dreaded Compaq Presario. We finnaly just gave
him an old 33.6 USR Sportster that we had left over from analog days. It
connected just fine. We let him keep the modem until he could justify
buying a new external of his own. (no this is before we found the fix
for the Compaq HCF modem) Anyway, a few month back we noted him
connecting at 53333 and called him to ask if he resolved his issue. He
said he bought a USR 56k and was never happier. Now we have done this
for quite a few people since we have these 33.6's laying around and I
have never regreted it. The guy with the Compaq has since reffered over
10 people to us because he is so happy with our response and time that we
spent helping him.
Ya know, the funniest thing about this is, that this guy had our
competitor for a provider and had the same problem with his Compaq
modem... And guess what? It was a USR Total Control!
