:Firstly a report-back to say I managed to get the PM2E30 working. I had PAP
:turned off, and once I enabled it, everything worked fine. Thanks to everyone
:for their kind assistance.
DOH! You should have tried setting up a user in the pm user file first then.
:If I do a winipcfg command from the Win '98 box I've used to dial in, it shows
:the default gateway as the ip address from the modem pool. Shouldn't that be the
Yes.
:address of our border router? If so, how do I configure that? I have already
:specified the IP gateway correctly.
For the remote units, the default gateway address is the address of the
portmaster it dialed in to. The default route is the ip address of the next
router to send packets to when there is no other path on the local side for
the packet to take. If you have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255, then the
default route is automatically used so the data goes down the fone line to
the portmaster.
:Secondly, I have set up the PM2E30 with a DNS entry and an in.addr-arpa entry as
:well. However, should I also give each of the modem pool IP's a DNS entry too? I
:have PMVision and there is a section, under Configure/Global to insert an IP
:address for "reported IP address".
Yes, otherwise, your customers will not get reverse dns and they will NOT be
able to get to many sources. My servers for example, do not allow ANY non
authenticatable ip addresses to access any services. Everyo once in a while,
I get complaints about this, but I explain that their provider doesnt have
their dns set up right.
