the one advantage esf/b8zs has over ami is the calculated crc encoded
within the frame. crc is a way to test a live signal for integrity. ami
has only framing for integrity testing. also, esf/b8zs allows for 64K
clear on trunks and is a better line code for this reason.

also...
most phone companies think if there are crc errors from the cpe, the
problem is with the cpe.. thats wrong... if your smart jack is HDSL
technology, the crc is recalculated when the HDSL is converted to t1/pri
by the HRU. if a problem developes downstream from the HRU the phone
company will see crc errors even though you are good from your PM to the
HRU.
