Starting in 3.8 the hfile (help file) was moved from a raw partition in
flash to the standard partition in flash cell 2. Raw partitions store the
ComOS binaries and standard partitions hold modem code and configuration
(and starting in 3.8 the hfile).
The 'erase config' command reformats cell 2. Since the hfile is also
resides in cell2 the file is blown away as well.
The file can be restored by reloading the ComOS image. If you don't want
to reload the whole ComOS, just the hfile (which is alot safer) you can
easily modify the ComOS tftp image file.
Open the image in your favorite text editor. Each file begin with the
keyword "file" followed by the file contents in uuencode format. The end
of the file is marked with the keyword "end". So you can take a copy of
the 3.8 image and delete all the files except the hfile. Then load this
modified image and you only load the hfile. If it barfs midway your PM
will not suffer in the least.
