I've been a member of this list since late 1995 and I believe I have
managed to read *every* letter sent here since I first signed up.
I've tried to help both as an employee of Livingston/Lucent, and on my
own since. But I've now decided to leave the list.
I've been looking at my life, and realized that I've been trying to do
everything. The end result is I haven't been doing anything very
well, and I'm always tired. I haven't worked directly with NASen
since I left Lucent in February, 1998. So anything I do in that
regard is on my own time and doesn't help with with anything I need to
do. (I do security engineering (VPN & Firewalls) now.)
My knowledge of the PortMaster is becoming less and less relevant as
time goes on. The only hands on experience I have is the OR-U that
connects my home - and I'm switching to SDSL soon, so that will be
retired. It is time to quit while I'm still ahead.
I've been unsubscribing from most of the lists I'm still a member of,
but this is the hardest one to quit. I've been more active here than
any other forum I have participated in, ever. And I've come to
consider many of the folks here as more than just names on the screen,
but as colleagues and even friends.
I'm planning on sticking around on most of the RADIUS lists, and I
think I'll be on inet-access for a while. But for the rest I'm moving
on.
I wanted to thank all of the folks that have made my time on the list
so enjoyable. All of the jokes, advice, information, and helpful tips
that have passed through. I really believe that this list is a
community in and of itself - we may have our fights from time to time,
but we always seem to brush ourselves off and get on with business.
So many people going out of their way to help others - strangers or
even the competition - is really quite inspiring.
I know I can be quite an arrogant bastard, and I've just completely
lost it on some poor soul from time to time. But I hope that I've
been able to make things a little easier for folks, in the end I
always wanted to help. I appreciate the opinions, help, and kindness
that have been exchanged here.
I'll miss you folks.
Thank you, and fare thee well,
-MZ
