Yeah GW is right in some respects... They OEM this crap and the drivers
are a little different... _BUT_ you should be able to use a USR driver for
the same chipset, just some features will no longer work.

Looking at the gateway site you'd need to verify the part number to see
which driver may be appropriate. I just love how they don't give a
revision number for the drivers ;)

Drivers for 6000905 - 56K PCI Modem for Internet
Latest Drivers=09=09=09=09Date=09=09Size=09=09
Windows 95/Windows 98=097505173.exe=091\99=09=09304KB
Windows NT=09=097505169.exe=097\99=09=09835KB

is an example.

OH UGH ARGH! While researching on the HSP PCTel 7.63 question, I happened
onto a page by 808hi.com

http://www.808hi.com/56k/badchips.htm

How appropriate a page name ;)

Well that gives a link to esstech.com and mucking around looking for
drivers, I found a page with audio drivers only, BUT a link to the M$ hcl
list.

From=20there looking for ESS under Analog/Modems, gives a few drivers that
are listed with some specific to companies like Archtek and the HP
Typhoon.

Some drivers you could try.

Or http://www.jccom.com/modem.htm which I got from a yahoo search of
mediasurf and modem.

http://www.modemhelp.org/drivers.html is another helpful site...

guess jccom is the manufacturer of the mediasurf modems.

Now is a websearch and some detective work so hard? 8) I personally
don't think so, but then again I've been doing searches on drivers for
various things for a couple of years. Some sites I LOVE to death since
they'll list older drivers and revision numbers. Other sites, well, at
least they have something... It's those that have no information or site
that really are a bitch.

Anyway, I hope this is teaching you how to fish... Like, how I find sites
and bookmarking URLs like the modemhelp.org, that can be handy in the
future....
