I've seen reports that for winmodems aka cpu-bound, that reducing the
speed in the modem control panel helps to limit buffer overruns... I can't
validate that since I leave it at 115200 for most instances.

One of the best people to ask would be Ed S. from lucent.com to comment on
the LT modems... I believe there was a posting from him concerning the
port enumerator and serial port assignments or something to that effect.
*shrug* the more complicated things get, it seems the more things there
are to break ;)
