I would reccommend just using the bsdi box for validating. You can set up
an expect script to remote ftp to another platform nt, linux. win95,
macintosh, etc to get an updated users file. Expect is included in the
bsdi distribution.

The way our back up scheme works is we'll tar up and gzip the requisite
files, use cron to run an expect script that ftp's the zipped fileto a
win95 machine that we have a tape drive on. The tape backup runs at 5 in
the morning. Wholeprocess is worry/hands free. The sam principle can be
applied to the users file tho the script would have to run as root so be
careful on how you set the permissions.

FYi, expect is a program that for all intents and purposes makes the
system think the script is an actual user. Anything that a user does,
telnet, ftp, lynx, etc can be done in an expect script.
