SLIP and PPP may use Van-Jacobsen header compression, which will only
affect TCP headers. VJ compression will not be negotiated during PPP
startup, so both ends have to be configured with the same compression
settings (on or off). So first make sure that your PPP client has the
same compression settings as your PortMaster (in this case, your user
or location table entry).
The VJ problem and fix should be included in the Portmaster FAQ.
