I can tell that you've never had an Ascend, ;-). Comos and pmconsole are
better than what you get on an Ascend by about 20-1. Ascend support is no
better than Livingston's and costs alot more. ("What does
Ascend-Disconnect-Cause = 13 in the radacct detail file mean? Answer:
where? What do you mean Ascend-Disconnect-Cause?")
On the other hand, Ascend has made extensions to SNMP that make it
actually useful, and they are here now. There's no way we can use a PM-3
now. A software upgrade sometime later for chanellized T1s is of no
value. We finally have our phone company trained to provide us with
working T1s with only 2 bottles of aspirin. I hate to have to order
another T1 and say, "But this time we don't want it chanellized." Worse
yet, it would probably be down for a month until they got it right when
the software upgrade became available and we wanted to switch the T1 to
channelized.
