Right.
On the ServerTypes tab make sure that the only box that has
a check in it is the TCP/IP protocol box (ie *no* advanced options).
- Log on to Network - for logging into an NT domain (this takes time
whether NETBEUI is enabled on the link or not; NETBIOS will go
over TCP/IP) usually a waste of time.
- Enable Software Compression - a waste of time dialing into a PM.
- Require Encrypted Password - doesn't work at all at my ISP.
WRT the 30 sec to connect, make sure you and the customer are
talking about the same thing. My timeline for an analog connect is:
- 0 sec: Hit OK on the "Connect to" dialog; status "Dialing..."
- 5 sec: PM modem answers; status "Dialing..."
- 16 sec: modems finish negotiating; status "Verifying..."
- 24 sec: PPP up, the status dialog "dives" to the tray.
Note, no connect script or terminal window is necessary to connect
to my ISP's PM.
Hope this helps,
Bill
