Alex ... For the "short" runs you are talking about you can use almost
anything
(that is - as long as it's NOT located near an AM transmitter or
anything like
that!). Satin or twisted - makes no difference ... We have used BOTH
and I have
connected an O-Scope (Tektronics 100-MHz dual trace for those who are
interested)
across the modem lines and I have not been able to tell any difference
in the
modem signals. Now - if you plan to run the serial cables longer than
around
50 ft or operate the modems in a high R.F. field area this WILL be a
different
story! Bottom line - use what you wish ... just MAKE SURE the
connections are
SOLID!

For the record: We are using Cat-5 solid wire with RJ-45 gold-plated
connectors
and RJ-45 to DB-25 adaptors (also gold-plated)
connecting our
PM2E-30 to the USRobotics Sportsters (yes - we are using
the
sportsters and we are NOT having any problems...)

BTW: One of the things we provide is LAN/WAN connectivity solutions so
we do have
"some" experience ( RS-232 through OC-48 ) with serial interfaces and
cabling...
