I just went through this nightmare with a P-75 (5.0A) and Tech Support
said "We can't get multilink PPP to work" (but they did solve the basic
config problem). The real answer - and the _only_ way to make this work -
is to upgrade to the 3.5.1b17 release. I was running 3.5 and figured -
Hey I'm current; there's only a beta after this! If you read
release351b17.txt you'll find a section titled: "Improved Multilink PPP"
and the key phrase "improving interoperability with other vendors".
I asked on the list about a P-75 <-> PM cheat sheet and got zero replies.
(I guess I should put one together Real Soon Now). I'm no Ascend fan -
I've hassled with Ascend equipment for a long time - but you have to agree
that there are a shitload of Pipelines out there. (Note: "shitload" is a
technical term popular in Unix environments). Observation 1997: If your
question to portmasters-users does not involve a PM-3, don't count on
getting many replies. The only exception to OB1997 is Stephen Fisher
<lithium@cia-g.com>. Thanks Stephen!
Now we need to give the Tech Support dept. a PM2, a P-75, a sealed room
and a mandate "Don't come out until it interoperates". Do you get the
impression that I'm just a little mad at Tech Support?
If you need any further info or help, feel free to contact me off list.
Make sure that you prefix any PM2 communications with the following
phrase: "I'm a NON PM3 owner and I've got a NON PM3 question". Also use
the phrase "in a Livingston NON PM3 environment" copiously. ;-)
OK: You walk into a large crowded room full of seated people who all turn
around in their seats to look at you. You walk in slowly and cautiously.
Then you say "Hi, my name is Al and I'm a non PM3 owner". The crowd
replies in one roaring chorous: "HI AL".
