>The next release of 3.9 for the PM3 will contain the same modem code that

Now this IS disturbing for two reasons. First, we are one of the many
users that found severe modem disconnect problems with 3.8.2 vice 3.8 and
had to go back. In fact, none of the improvements cited in the 3.8.2
release notes were true for us (latency, reduced disconnects, improved MP
connections with W95). Talking with a second-level technician at Lucent
when we turned this in for support revealed that they were aware of the
modem software problems and were thinking of coming out with a 3.8.x
interim solution with the modem code fixed the way the 3.8.2 release notes
promised. Now to hear that there will be NO improvements in modem code in
3.9 is very distressing.
Second, with the change in model of modem cards to the 1675 (or whatever)
we will at some point be forced to run this version of modem code that
causes disconnects and results in irate customers.
Frankly, all these whiz-bang features don't mean a whit if the modem code
is mediocre.
I hope that Lucent IS working tirelessly on improved modem code.
