(PM) PM2E rapid reboot syndrome

This is a followup message to my colleague (farhad@nmc.pradeshta.net)'s
problem with a PM2E-30 that has 4 Mb RAM and 3.7.2 comos loaded.

We recently had the unit fail in a remote pop, after a few days of
intense heat and humidity. First we thought that the motherboard
was bad, since it would start up, and then show those funny
SYSMSGS etc and quickly reboot without going to the login: stage.

However we were able to do a netboot, a PROM boot and reboot it
over the net to load up a simple comos image. Then, with the SYSMSG,
garbage on the screen we were able to set the ether0 address and
netmask enough for us to use PMCONSOLE to download the configuration,
and for us to upload a fresh comos including fresh configuration. The
configuration is saved now in the flash ram, and it actually works
as it is supposed to -- dial back into our switch.

However, it also reboots frequently ( around 10-15 minutes ) every
time, and with little or no indication of the reason. I wonder
if there is any debug switch in the comos that can tell us the reason
for reboot of the PM2E so we can capture it on the screen.

If I am able to get a trace, I'll send it on for you to review,
but do request if you have had any similiar experiences;

FLASH.. here is a partial trace, about a few minutes ago, with no
activity

the system rebooted and went through the power on self test upto the
point:

Testing Low Memory..
Testin

...; and that is where the system is hanging till now. Now, previously
we were seeing SYSMSG after the o/s loaded after this portion, but not
for a day now after the reload of the operating system.

Does this seem to be indicating that the motherboard has either heated
up and caused hardware failure over time?, but why would it reboot
spontaneously again and again.

I bet you that if took a hard object and tapped the motherboard on the
ceramic case of the cpu's we would get it to reboot -- we saw that
symptom early in the debug of this unit. But where would we start.

Would Lucent have a special diagnostic service available on payment
basis for this unit which we are using to identify the fault?
