:(1) telnet ECHO has to be provided by the client, not the server. Normal
You mean telnet to the portmaster? Because character based telnet echo is
typically provided by the host/daemon.
:telnet daemons provide host based echo, that=B4s why you see characters.
:Some telnet clients allow local echo to be switched on and off.
:Portmasters dont.=20
If that were the case, then when I telnetted to a portmaster from anywhere
else, I would not get an echo unless the telnet daemon of the portmaster
echoed back, because I do NOT have local echo on, in my telnet client.
:(2) Telnet allows to be set from "character at a time" mode to "line by
:line" mode. This has also to be done by the client. "line by line" offers
:local echo, local editing and block sends a TCP packet with the whole line
:stored in after sending EOL or EOF
Correct, but I am not in line mode. But I think I figured out what is going
on. The portmaster's telnet client is assuming line mode unless the telnet
port is either not specified or is port 25 and is NOT one of the telnet
service ports set up in the portmaster itself. For example, I can telnet to
port s5 on a pm2e FROM the portmaster because I set up s5 with an outbound
telnet service on port 10005. That works fine and is in character based
mode,
:
:What you experience is "no echo". Your characters get sent to the host,
:but you have to send the EOL character to your application. Now the Just
:terminate your not-echoed command with ^J instead of <Enter>, end you=B4ll
:be fine ;-)
No that STILL does not work. You dont get echo UNLESS you specify line mode
to the telnet client, BUT if you are telnetting to a device that is using
something other than port 23 for telnet, but it is indeed a telnet type
session, you want character mode.
To do a cr,lf btw, you can do a toggle crlf in most telnet clients.
